Surrey Music School offers unique piano courses for adults in Guildford. These are designed for adults who have always longed to play the piano and have the time to invest in developing their skills.
These courses offer an alternative to traditional 1:1 piano lessons. Adults learn together in groups of 4-6 with 1:1 lessons every couple of weeks and the following areas are covered:
Improvisation - learn how to make up your own music both alone and with others (it's the most fun part!).
Playing pieces by ear and by rote - the first term of the course includes learning at least 5 pieces by rote (don't worry if you're not good at remembering, we provide reminder videos to help you at home) and 3 pieces by ear. You'll also learn simple accompaniments for some of the pieces so you can begin to play hands together.
Technique - you'll learn to play with arm weight (it's not just the fingers that play the piano, but the whole body!) and a good hand shape as well as begin to play hands together.
Theory - you'll learn about theory using really fun games from Music Mind Games. Just because we're all grown up now doesn't mean we can't still enjoy and learn through games!
Music reading - as the playing and theory aspects of your piano playing start coming together you'll begin to learn to read music too.
Benefits
The group lessons offer the opportunity to learn with other adults, share your struggles and triumphs, make music together, play for others and enjoy hearing others play for you, a safe supportive environment in which to learn, the opportunity to study a far broader curriculum than is possible in most 1:1 lessons and a closed Facebook group to share ideas, playing and questions.
The 1:1 lessons offer the opportunity to work in detail on any aspects of the course you are finding challenging and refine your technical skills.
