The course that will be launching in September 2018 is 9 weeks long. There will be 7 two hour group sessions and two 30 minute 1:1 sessions. So in total 15 hours of piano study. Sessions will not take place every week after the first four, to give students time to play at home and develop their skills.
Group sessions are well planned and divided into three parts.
Part 1 will include learning to play music by rote and ear on the piano with good technique and improvisation.
Part 2 will cover learning to read rhythm, developing sense of pulse, understanding the musical alphabet, learning about the grand staff (music notation) and landmark notes on the grand staff, reading notes that step up, down and repeat on the grand staff and beginning to apply this to music you'll be playing from the tutor book.
Part 3 will cover material from a tutor book and include more piano playing.
1:1 sessions will provide an opportunity for students to discuss any elements they are finding challenging and work on refining their technique.
Music is a language. Imagine trying to learn a foreign language without actually speaking it - it would be impossible! Learning music is the same and our primary instrument is the voice so as a group we will be singing what we'll be learning. Don't worry, you won't ever have to sing alone and if you're not comfortable singing I usually suggest people sing in their heads until they do feel comfortable.
There will also be a refreshment break to provide opportunities to chat and socialise.
